Overheard in the kitchen

Sean was pulling his dinner out of the oven....

BANG.

Sean: OH CRAP!

Cece jumps off the bed and goes running into the kitchen with her tail wagging 90mph.

Is it sad that our dog knows what OH CRAP means after she hears a bang in the kitchen? Buffet for her!

Deadlines

This may sound crazy but I love deadlines. Probably because I'm so competitive and it's one competition I can usually beat. Procrastination has never been one to motivate me, but give me a deadline and most of the time I'll get it done long before it's due so I win!

But here's the problem with having a baby. You don't know the 'deadline.' You have an approximate date that if all the stars line up, all the planets align, and everything is perfect in the world you will meet your deadline. And this only happens to 5% of all babies. What about the other 95%? It doesn't take a statistician to figure out that the odds are definitely NOT in my favor.

With all the preparation and craziness going on in our lives around August 3rd, this is one deadline I wouldn't mind being a few days late on.

(Although I bet as happy and excited as I'll be 9 months pregnant in 110 degree weather I won't be singing that tune in a couple of months!)

Sean laying his ear against my belly after praying for the baby...

Me: What are you doing?

Sean: SHHHH! I'm listening.

Me: To what?

Sean: ::looks at me as if I'm completely clueless:: The baby!

Me: You aren't going to hear anything.

Sean: Shhhh! I hear something!

Me: I'm sure it's my lunch digesting.

Sean: Yeah, I think so.

better than any baby name book

I've spent plenty of time googling baby names. (We do have a couple we have been stuck on for a couple of weeks now though....) But eventually you get past the top 10,000 and have to go to googling 'unique baby names...' and then 'creative baby names' and then by the time you get to the 'unique AND creative baby names' website and are asking your husband if he likes names such as Candelario and Menachem you realize maybe you've spent too much time on naming websites and maybe it's time to find a more productive way to find a baby name.

I've come to a brilliant conclusion. Instead of spending HOURS pouring over baby name books or websites just go to the grocery store at naptime. (Kill time AND research baby names).

Here is a tidbit of what I heard today...

"Grayson, I'm not kidding. RIGHT now. (20 sec pause) GRAYSON. NOW. (mom's cell phone rings). Come ON Grayson (while still on the phone) GRAYSON BOYD I MEAN IT!"

5 minutes later.

"TYLER Stop running off. Tyler Come stand by Mommy, Tyler, you aren't listening to me, Tyler, Tyler...."

yet another 5 minutes later.

"Steven, stop touching that. (mom turns to talk to sister). Steven, I told you don't mess with that. (30 sec pause). Steven you are going to bre- CRASH! See Steven, I told you to stop, if you would listen to me that wouldn't happen!"

And it went on and on and on. With more kids then I could count...I think you get the idea. I got a lot of ideas for names this afternoon. Names I have seriously considered and will never use because I heard them too many times today.

Lessons learned: Plan your errand running around naptime. Or hire a nanny!

So I am back to square one with baby names...but if all else fails we can always call him Menachem which is very scientific don't you think?
